This powerpoint presentation begins by providing background information on a chromium problem at a Glendale, California, Water Treatment Plant (GWTP). A Four-Phase Program Initiated by Glendale included:
Phase I
Bench Study, AwwaRF-sponsored study to screen technologies
for Cr(VI) removal and evaluate redox chemistry
(Brandhuber et al., 2005);
Phase II
Pilot Study, US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA)-sponsored study of 6
technologies at pilot-scale (McGuire
et al., 2006; Qin et al, 2005);
Phase III
Demonstration Study, USEPA- and AwwaRF-sponsored
Bridge Project, Additional
requests for demo. funding; and,
Phase IV
Full-Scale treatment implementation. Treatment technology evaluation includes:
Bridge Project - initial part of the
Phase III Demonstration Study;
purposes of the Bridge Project including
test additional WBA resins,
test constant pH conditions, and
investigate characteristics of
WBA residuals to identify
mechanisms of Cr(VI) removal. Treatment technology evaluation and residuals analysis are provided.
