This powerpoint presentation provides an outline of the Aurora Water Prairie Waters Project and how it combines natural and high-tech purification to meet rigorous water quality standards. Presentation topics include: background and climate change drivers;
water resource recovery strategy;
selecting the right purification strategy; and,
confirmation of purification approach. A summary of benefits of combining natural
pretreatment with high-tech
purification includes the following:
organic carbon reduction will improve efficiency of
treatment plant processes (softening, AOP, GAC)
and decrease DBP formation;
increasing UVT significantly reduces cost for
UV-AOP;
natural de-nitrification through RBF and ARR is
natural low-cost process without secondary supply of
organic carbon; and,
reduces potential for eutrophication in water storage
reservoirs, reducing potential of formation of T&O
compounds and algal toxins. Includes figures.
