This paper
describes the investigations undertaken by the Water Works and Sewer Board of the City of Birmingham, Alabama to understand the causes for
the increase in lost water, and develop and implement a Water Loss Reduction Plan. The Board was guided by the International Water Association
(IWA)/American Water Works Association (AWWA) Best Management Practices in
Water Loss Control, and experience gained from participation in the American Water
Works Association Research Foundation (AwwaRF) Research Project 2928 Leakage
Management Technologies. The
paper reports on the activities and progress to date. Includes 3 references, tables, figures.
