This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the city of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The criticality of water mains in Hamilton is presented, along with a condition assessment rationalization tool and a condition rating consolidation tool. Steps to implementing an analytical hierarchy process (AHP) tool are given, along with an inspection and intervention planning tool. Presentation conclusions indicate that:
a "blanket" management approach for all
types of water main assets is not
effective;
concept of "risk" good starting point for
crafting your management approach;
opportunity to get a good bang for the
buck by focusing on potentially
problematic mains; opportunity to collect Level "A" distress
indicators at relatively low cost; and,
moving beyond level "A" is costly and there is
a need for a rationalization framework. Includes tables, figures.
