This powerpoint presentation presents ten primary trends and their
implications for water utilities:
population;

workforce issues;
technology; Total Water
Management;
customer expectations; utility financial
constraints;
energy; and,
increasing risk
profile. The 10 primary trends can be distilled into five small system capacity
affecting concerns: a limited rate base; under-capitalization; lack of operational expertise;
limited management training; and, increasing risk. The presentation provides suggestions for dealing with these challenges, the most effective
being the exercise of leadership, collaborative leadership - board, staff,
and organizational - to leverage existing resources and maximize their benefit.
