This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the National Infrastructure Protection Plan (NIPP) Risk Management Framework and the Sector Specific Plan (SSP). SSP goals are presented and include: sustain protection of public health and the environment; recognize and reduce risks in the water sector; maintain a resilient infrastructure; and, increase communication, outreach, and public confidence. Emerging issues/developments are presented, including the following: Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards - Interim Final Rule issued April 2, 2007 - Water sector currently exempt - Chlorine gas use as part VBIED in Iraq has triggered interest/concern from DHS/EPA and Capital Hill; and, performance metrics based on SSP Goals - WSCC/GCC approved in February, 2008, WaterISAC is testing now for a planned rollout later this year - all voluntary, but intent to assess basic level of progress towards greater security and preparedness under the NIPP framework; the gaseous chlorine issue; and, the Pandemic Flu issue.
