In this paper the possible effect of climate change on the water
resources availability in Spain is considered and analyzed from the viewpoint of
minimizing their impact on supply reliability. After a brief comment about the
consideration of climatic change in water planning in Spain, recently available
results are presented obtained from the IPCC TAR scenarios coupled to hydrological
water balance models applied on a wide set of river basins in Spain. Finally,
conclusions and main results are resumed, showing guidelines for actual and further
research. From a planning and management point of view, it can be shown that,
integrated with many others measures, water transfers could be in some instances an
effective tool to minimize the climate change impact on water resources. Includes 10 references, figures.
