This powerpoint presentation begins by presenting the study objectives that include the following: to model the simultaneous removal of multiple contaminants by anion exchange. This was done by using the following steps: model arsenic and nitrate removal; model arsenic and nitrate regeneration; model partial vs. complete regeneration; and, model multiple ion exchange columns in parallel. The experimental approach included the following: measure resin capacity and resin-anion affinity factors; use experimental data to curve-fit an actual effluent curve and determine best-fit number of stages (mass-transfer zones); model nitrate and arsenic removal for a number of different water qualities such as when nitrate exceeded its MCL, when arsenic exceeded its MCL, and when both nitrate and arsenic exceed their MCL. Includes tables, figures.
