This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Gibson Island Advanced Water Treatment Plant, located in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, and the Cape Coral Water Reclamation Facility, located in Cape Coral, Florida. Ultraviolet (UV) treatment fundamentals are presented, including disinfection, UV transmittance, and advanced oxidation equipment. The presentation compares the projects on advanced oxidation and disinfection with UV. Presentation conclusions indicate the following: advanced oxidation targets small dissolved molecules while disinfection targets microorganisms; advanced oxidation has a much higher UV dose requirement which means much higher water quality is needed for a system with a similar size; once the UV equipment size (installed kW) have been determined required footprint is similar; and, the equipment capital cost represents approximately half the whole of life cost of a UV system. Includes figures.
