This powerpoint presentation begins by presenting filter washwater hydraulics, in particular underdrains. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) filter design analysis tools are presented, focusing on basic, intermediate and advanced model approach. Several filter design case studies are presented.
Presentation summary includes the following:
proper design of inlet, conduit and baffling is
important for even distribution of BWW;
factors to consider in design include
velocity at inlet,
orientation of inlet,
orientation of box conduit,
position and orientation of baffles, and
porosity of baffles (headloss);
CFD can be a valuable design tool; and,
CFD is not a substitute for design experience. Includes figures.
