This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom. The focus of the presentation is primarily on the
way in which climate change may impact urban areas
and particularly how the United Kingdom water industry seeks to
address the challenge to quantify and mitigate these
"potential" impacts. Specifically, the presentation
includes some of the approaches proposed by the United Kingdom
Water Industry to better understand the impacts of
climate change, in terms of:
the technology and scientific
challenge;
the implementation of sustainable
drainage systems; and,
the future management of the
aging infrastructure and its
operation and control in near real
time. Presentation summary includes the following:
implementation of infrastructure changes will
increase the United Kingdom Water Industry costs to meet
the potential impacts of climate change;
the future will see an integrated water
management perspective;
energy and carbon footprint issues are key to
future strategy and compliance - UKWIR/USA
alliance and partnership; and,
there are now improved techniques for asset
location and condition assessment. Includes figures.
