This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the project objectives that include the following: improve reliability,
operability, and
maintainability of the City of North Port Water Treatment Plant
(WTP); and,
achieve reliable yield
of Myakkahatchee
Creek and Cocoplum
Canal to promote
continuous WTP
production. Several challenges are presented that have prevented
the consistent and reliable
production of water, and the WTP Enhancement Study
evaluated existing treatment
processes and new technologies. These evaluations were used to develop
recommendations on improvements to the
existing conventional WTP. New process combination of reverse osmosis (RO) with
riverbank filtration pretreatment was
also evaluated to address reduction of total dissolved solids
(TDS) and sulfates. The pilot program included riverbank
filtration, bag filter, and RO
process (no acid), and the study included testing of bank filtered
water, as well as possible conjunctive
use via blending of bank filtered water
with groundwater. Hydraulic performance
results are provided. Includes figures.
