This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the project objectives that include the following:
work performed for PRASA to evaluate alternative
water supplies;
feasibility study for a reverse osmosis water
treatment plant using brackish water discharged
from Cano Tiburones near City of Arecibo;
feasibility study for a reverse osmosis water
treatment plant using brackish groundwater from
South Coast Aquifer near City of Salinas. Treatment processes are presented that were selected to
provide adequate pretreatment for RO. Conclusions on the Arecibo RO WTP indicate the following: it is feasible and can
be implemented;
suitable WTP sites are available; finished water tie-in points are available;
permittable concentrate disposal points are
available - may be time-consuming;
raw water supplies are likely adequate - further
proof is needed;
costs are relatively high, but not unreasonable and
should decrease on a per gallon capacity basis
with further project development. Presentation conclusions for the Salinas RO WTP include the following: it is feasible and can
be implemented;
suitable WTP sites are available;
finished water tie-in points are available;
permittable concentrate disposal points are
available - may be time-consuming;
raw water supplies are likely adequate -
further proof is needed; and,
costs are relatively high, but not unreasonable
and should decrease on a per gallon capacity
basis with further project development. Includes tables, figures.
