This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of regulatory drivers and limits for boron. Boron speciation in water is presented, along with second pass alkalization, and feed alkalization. Presentation conclusions indicate the following: First Pass Feed Alkalization at ambient pH (8.0), only manufacturer A met permeate boron goal of 0.5 mg/L; feedwater alkalinization to pH 9.0 was required for all suppliers to comply boron goal; and, projection models generally conservative estimates. Second Pass Feed Alkalization: pH 10 achieves significant reduction at low NaOH dose; reduces 2nd pass size by >35%; and, projection models generally conservative estimates. Includes tables, figures.
