This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of recent climate trends for the western United States. A survey of 39 utilities was conducted of impacts to planning
criteria and design standards - document planning criteria. Project approach included:
evaluate planning criteria used for water supply
reliability, water demand projections, and sizing of
facilities and AWWA design standards;
assess how existing planning criteria and design
standards may be modified; perform case studies with
Contra Costa Water District,
Los Angeles Department of Water and Power,
San Diego County Water Authority,
Seattle Public Utilities, and the
Australian approach;
conduct workshop to vet findings; and,
develop framework for climate change evaluation on
planning criteria and design standards to enable other water
utilities to assess vulnerability to climate change. Includes tables, figures.
