This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Birmingham Water Works Board (BWWB), the BWWB water filtration plants, and the recent history and current activities of the BWWB. In 2003, BWWB took several steps to prepare for
the anticipated Stage 2 Disinfectant/Disinfection Byproduct (D/DBP) Rule including
evaluating 30 plus DBP control alternatives. It established the BWWB Water Quality Initiative that included: Watershed Management;
Treatment Management;
Distribution System Management;
Research and Testing;
Assist Consecutive System with Water Quality
Monitoring; and, Public Relations and Education. Recently, BWWB completed the design of a Mobile Drinking Water Treatment
Pilot Plant that could be used at each of BWWB's four
treatment plants
for plant optimization, pre-oxidation alternatives,
and initial GAC filter studies. The GAC master plan is presented, along with results of the GAC demonstration project, and the effects of the Stage 2 DBP Rule on BWWB.
