This paper discusses the use of dissolved air flotation (DAF) to cost-effectively
remove turbidity, algae (and associated taste and odor), color, organics, metals, as well as
Cryptosporidium and Giardia. DAF can easily adjust to rapid changes in raw water temperature
and water quality while continually producing consistent effluent for filtration and concentrated
sludge solids for further processing. The fundamentals of dissolved air flotation are discussed
and examples of pilot plant performance are presented. Includes tables, figures.
