This powerpoint presentation provides an overview of benchmarking in the water industry from its beginning in 1989 with Robert C. Camp's book, "Benchmarking: the Search for Industry Best Practices That Lead to Superior Performance." The 1996 AwwaRF report, "Performance Benchmarking for Water Utilities" is presented, along with the confusion over "metric" and "process" benchmarking, terms almost
exclusive of the water industry. In 2002 the IWA Task Group on benchmarking was formed to bring a common
understanding of benchmarking to the
water industry. Topics covered include: performance assessment with the IWA performance indicator (PI) system; a common language; and, context information.
