Ten small public water systems were evaluated for compliance with the Surface Water Treatment Rule, and detailed reports of the findings for two of the systems were presented in this paper. These two systems have turbidities greater than 0.5 NTU. The problems encountered in bringing each system into compliance are explained, along with the associated probable capital costs. Five general conclusions, based on the study of all 10 systems, are given.
