Multiquality networks are distribution systems in which waters from different qualities are taken from sources, possibly treated, conveyed and supplied to consumers. Multiquality simulation modeling is aimed at studying the changes of water quality substances, in time and in space, within the distribution system. The major part of the methods allow the quality model to ride on the hydraulic solution. These techniques get as input the time series of the hydraulic simulation, and the contaminant concentrations of the sources, which then serves as the starting point of the quality analysis. Topological analysis for multiquality networks are preprocessing investigations for a given system that consider the connectivity of the network, limitations on directions of flow and contaminant concentrations. The need for optimization exists whenever the solution to a problem is not unique. In modeling multiquality networks this situation occurs in design or operation, but may also appear in simulation (in case of insufficient data).
