This paper provides a summary of typical wetland impacts that result from groundwater withdrawals in or near a wetland, and a general methodology for qualitative prediction of these impacts. This information will be relevant to water supply planners and engineers, wetland scientists, water resource managers, and federal and state regulators. Although the impact assessment and guidelines presented in this paper are directed at potable well operation, they may also be applicable to other activities affecting wetland hydrology, including contaminated groundwater remediation, surface water withdrawals, draining of surface waters or wetlands, weather-related alterations, and development impacts related to increases in impervious surfaces.
