This paper compares the performance of two types of reverse osmosis (RO) membranes using different stages of configuration at two RO plants in Saudi Arabia. The two plants are identical in some operation aspects but differ in membrane configuration and type, i.e. two stage (CA) and three stage (TFM) and also in pretreatment design, i.e., cold process and hot process. Also covered is all data, technical parameters of pre-treatment, productivity and permeate quality, including the evaluation and availability of membrane and pre-treatment and operation problems encountered.
