Program goals and objectives of this research were to dramatically increase
the market share of resource efficient washers in the program area over the following
three years, and to influence the development and support of maximum energy and
water efficiency levels for revised federal clothes washer standards. These goals
were achieved by: implementing a cost-effective, collaborative program that
helps customers save energy, water and wastewater through the use of resource efficient
washers; educating consumers about the financial savings and other benefits that can
be realized due to the use of these washers; stimulating manufacturers to
produce efficient washers and ensuring an adequate supply in the Northwest market
place; and, accelerating the rate of cost reduction of resource efficient washers.
