The Pipe Evaluation Model (PEM) is currently being utilized by the Company's Engineering Planning Department to evaluate and select infrastructure renewal projects for the Main Replacement and Rehabilitation Program (MRRP). Initial benchmarks indicate the model to be efficient in the assessment of the water distribution and transmission system and the selection of MRRP projects. The PEM is designed to take advantage of the present computer network, client-server, and open architectures. This enables the application to be portable across many hardware and software operating platforms and offers the Louisville Water Company economical and flexible computer system solutions for applications development and implementation. As an ongoing and evolving application, the Pipe Evaluation Model will serve to optimize the Louisville Water Company's efforts as a part of the expanding infrastructure renewal program. The success of the PEM has also provided the groundwork for future integration of corporate information systems and comprehensive GIS applications.
