Water losses can be grouped into two types of loss, real losses, which are the physical losses and apparent losses, which are the metering and paperwork losses. Component based analysis and control techniques have been well defined on an international basis for real losses, however to date no international standardized approach has been clearly defined for component analysis and subsequent control of apparent losses. This paper will present some of the components of apparent losses and hopefully stimulate further research work in this field. Includes 6 references.
