This paper highlights the City of Ottawa's (City) experience in developing a comprehensive infrastructure asset management system of its water supply network. It contains a success story on how this tool was used to forecast a long-term annual capital budget for implementing an optimal watermain rehabilitation program. Also, this paper presents the City's systematic approach on how it creates a priority list of the watermains for rehabilitation or replacement and what criteria and step-by-step process it uses to determine the best renewal technique for each watermain in the priority list.
