This paper discusses the importance of keeping accurate records for a successful backflow prevention program. It is essential to allow the system users to get the information entered quickly and accurately. Successful data management systems have several key elements that will take some significant up-front investment in time and perhaps finances, but will easily pay off over the years if done correctly. Topics covered in this paper include: facility management; entities that need to be maintained; resource/lookup tables; data entry controls, automatic calculations and formatting; event management; merge letter management; searching and sorting; maintaining digital images; and, reporting/export capabilities.
