The home of the Browns, Indians and Cavaliers is also home to one of the more complex
computerized water distribution system hydraulic models. This model is integrated with a
geographic information system (GIS) database of the Cleveland, Ohio Division of
Water's (CWD) installed distribution system assets. Using this integration, up-to-date
hydraulic models are extracted from the GIS hydraulic data in a relatively short period of
time. Many of the unwritten operational rules for the system were incorporated into the
model in the process of completing and calibrating the model. In doing so, a number of
opportunities to make these operations more efficient were identified. The model also
incorporates water quality analysis and has led to a greater understanding of how
disinfectant residuals are affected by CWD's operational strategies. Includes 2 references, figures.
