This paper gives an overview of Metro Water Services (MWS) water audits using
the IWA / AWWA methodology. The first audit was done by Water Systems
Optimization (WSO) and covered the period from July 2001 through June 2002. The
second audit that was recently completed covered the period from July 2002 through June
2003. The first audit had some very large confidence limits due to lack of data and / or a
lack of confidence in some of the data. The department learned a lot from the first audit
and the data for the second audit was much more accurate and concise. Consequently, the
confidence limits were much tighter. Based on the results of the first audit, performance
targets were set and a plan for meeting those targets was identified and begun. Includes tables.
