This slide presentation outlines an effort by the city of Minneapolis to cleaning and line 10 miles of water main per year. The project purpose was to: improve water quality (rusty water) in
the distribution system;
improve C-factor, increase volume and
reduce friction; and, keep down costs by rehabilitation rather than replacement
if water
main is structurally sound. Topics covered include: selection of mains to be cleaned and lined; project timing; selling the project to stakeholders; project start up and staging; temporary water supply; shutting down the water main; access openings; cutting the pipe; cleaning and lining the water main; backflushing the service taps; disinfection; backfilling; and, removing temporary water supply.
