This powerpoint presentation begins by providing an overview of water quality (WQ) problems, including: loss of disinfection residual;
high disinfection byproduct (DBP) formation; Taste and Odor; and,
Colored and Turbid Water.
WQ Monitoring Needs are presented and include: Maintain Integrity of Drinking Water;
Regulatory Compliance;
Operational Process Control; and,
Consumer Satisfaction.
Typical WQ related questions are presented, along with
WQ models and requirements, and
WQ modeling examples of small and large utilities. Small utility conclusions were that:
high chlorine decay rate in surface water,
worth investing treatment improvements to maintain
residual; increased chlorine concentrations at the wells will help to
maintain system-wide chlorine levels;
slightly higher chlorine levels were predicted in the blended
zones;
should not have an adverse impact on DBP levels; and, increased chlorine dosing at surface water treatment plant
could increase DBPs. Includes figures.
