Effective information management begins with quality data and reliable access by diverseend users. Long before the crunch of Y2K conversions, the Miami-Dade Water andSewer Department (MDWASA) Plant Maintenance Division began the transition to aWindows based client-server solution. Similar to other agencies, MDWASA facesmaintenance challenges including asset management, work order tracking, prioritizationof repairs, job cost accounting, and communication of maintenance accomplishments. In 1993, the MDWASA Plant Maintenance Division initiated a project for thedevelopment of a Computer Aided Support System. To improve maintenancemanagement procedures, MDWASA selected CASS WORKS, an integrated system forasset based maintenance management, cost accounting, and warehouse inventory control. In addition to the software installation and training, data conversion of the existingCMMS database was included. The completed database was piloted and placed intoproduction in January 1995. With the growth of the data, a need arose to communicatemaintenance accomplishments to diverse users including management, engineering, front-linesupervisors and maintenance technicians. Through the development of an intranet basedEnterprise Reporting System, end users can access predefined reports that provide criticalinformation to managing, operating and tracking maintenance operations. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate the procedures used in creating theEnterprise Reporting System. The successful processes used in this project apply to anyCMMS implementation. Includes figures.
