In January 2000, Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU) initiated the Extended Period
Simulation (EPS) Modeling Project for its water transmission and distribution system.
The EPS model development utilized CSU's existing steady state model. The objectives
of the EPS modeling project were:
to develop and calibrate EPS models for different demand and operating conditions;
to support development of an "Energy and Water Quality Management System"
(EWQMS);
to support evaluation of alternative operational and structural modifications; and,
to evaluate water quality/age and energy (pumping) requirements for existing and
alternative operational and structural modifications. EPS model development is discussed, along with EPS applications, future applications, and EWQMS development and application. Includes 2 references, tables, figures.
