This article provides suggestions for management in planning training programs for small water utilities. The following suggestions are discussed: limit the subject matter for training to that which an employee needs in order to perform the job; define the work being trained for; specify the results of training; obtain the support of top management; and use instructional techniques that facilitate learning such as workshops, group discussions, and demonstrations.
