The findings of a water audit and leak detection investigation generated input for a new computer-aided drafting and design system (CADD) for the city of Des Plaines, Illinois. The system will upgrade the usefulness and accuracy of documents pertaining to the city's water and sewer facilities. Immediate benefits were realized from the discovery of significant leakage, and long-range benefits will be realized from the CADD system's flexibility and maintenance features. Graphic overlays on base maps of the city can be generated in hard-copy form to produce necessary graphic and nongraphic data. These data, stored in CADD, will also be of use to other municipal departments. Special formats may also be valuable in problem solving and future planning. Includes 4 references, tables, figures.
