A survey of perceived research needs of small water systems was conducted with state regulatory agencies and engineering consulting firms. The following were identified as the seven most important areas for research: funding, financing, and costs; adequate qualified staffing, supervision, and operator training; system viability; corrosion control and corrosion byproducts; appropriate and reliable efficient treatment technology; disinfection byproducts; and, the heavy burden of regulations and monitoring requirements.
