No studies have been conducted to date to directly compare log removal values
(LRVs) as measured via direct integrity test (DIT) results, turbidity data, and particle counts. Therefore, knowing that
LRV assessment is of substantial importance to an increasing number of state primacy agencies,
a pilot study was conducted to determine LRVs using each of these three methods on three
different microfiltration/ultrafiltration (MF/UF) systems (GE-Zenon, Pall, and Siemens-Memcor) over a period of several
months and with varying water quality. This paper
discusses the results of this study, assessing both the accuracy and precision of
the three methods, the influence of feed particulate concentrations (as applicable), and the
implications for full-scale facility permitting and design. Includes 5 references, tables, figures.
