This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Groundwater Recovery Enhancement and Treatment (GREAT) Program formed by regional water agencies including the City of Oxnard/Port Hueneme Water Agency/United Water Conservation District/Calleguas Municipal Water Supply District to address water supply challenges. GREAT Program objectives were to: construct regional groundwater desalter to serve Oxnard and Port Hueneme; construct recycled water system to serve agricultural users and prevent seawater intrusion; and, convey desal concentrate to enhance coastal wetlands at Ormond Beach. California Recycled Water Regulations for groundwater (GW) recharge are presented, along with AWPF process schematic, microfiltration (MF)/ultrafiltration (UF) technology selection, feedwater disinfection, feedwater pre-coagulation impact on MF fouling index and flux, reverse osmosis (RO) uses phased incorporation of large diameter elements, ultraviolet (UV)/advanced oxidation process (AOP), and concentrate treatment wetlands. Brackish concentrate pilot study findings include: ecosystem viability; healthy plant communities, fish; treated water quality; nutrient/metals loss, net mass removal of virtually all measured parameters; effluent is ecologically safe; removal to below ecological thresholds for Se, NO3; WET testing showed decreases in both acute and chronic toxicity to indicator organisms; and, combination of systems in series can improve treatment efficiency. Includes tables, figures.
