This powerpoint presentation begins by providing the goals of a Water Shortage Management Plan
that include:
minimize the negative impacts of water shortages;
protect the safety, health, and welfare of the public;
minimize the disruption of normal economic, business,
and residential activities;
maintain public trust through effective communication; and,
provide a balanced and equitable plan, in which all
water customers share the hardships and responsibilities
in proportion to the magnitude of the water shortage. An example is provided of drought planning by Redwood City, California, where individual
customer needs or their conservation efforts were not considered, and their "new way" of allocating water by actual needs and type of use is presented. Includes tables, figures.
