This paper discusses a two-year AWWARF project entitled "Membrane Concentrate Disposal." The project is presently in its seventh month and the work done to date has focused on information gathering and refinement of tasks and approach. Reflecting this, the paper presents background discussions and direction as opposed to findings and supporting data that will be available a year from now. General background issues giving rise to the project, the project purpose, tasks, and approach, and finally the efforts of the first six project months are presented. Statistics document the dramatic growth of the municipal membrane industry are provided.
