The Greenville Water System is located in the northwest portion of SouthCarolina in the foothills of the mountains. The system currently serves about 330,000customers from three sources of raw water. The Table Rock source came into being in 1930 supplying 8 million gallons per day (MGD). Currently, itis capable of delivering 16 MGD by gravity and 30 MGD with pumping. The NorthSaluda source was put into operation in 1960. It can supply 23 MG by gravity and 64MGD with pumping. The Table Rock and North Saluda sources both provide water toGreenville's new 75 MGD dissolved air flotation filter plant. The third source is fromLake Keowee located in Pickens County, about 30 miles west of Greenville. The AdkinsPlant is rated at 30 MGD.Treatment at both the Adkins and DAF plants consists of aluminum hydroxide forcoagulation, 25% sodium hydroxide for pH adjustment, zinc polyphosphate for corrosioninhibition, chlorine and ammonia for disinfection and fluosilicic acid for prevention ofdental caries. The service area comprises most all Greenville County and throughwholesale accounts, portions of three other counties.
