The objectives of this pilot study were to develop engineeringdesign criteria for a full-scale treatment system to remove methyl tertiary butyl ether (MtBE) and tertiary butyl alcohol (tBA) from a drinking water aquifer located in Los Angeles, California. A pilot study using ultraviolet light (UV)-hydrogen peroxide in a tower configuration was operated over a 9-month period to develop the design and operational data to assist in the full-scale design.
