The objective of this slide presentation was to evaluate whether existing models for estimating Total Trihalomethane (TTHM) formation potential could be successfully applied to California State Project Water (SPW) pre-treated with a magnetic ion exchange (MIEX®) resin, followed by conventional coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration and free chlorine disinfection. The methodology included: evaluation of five literature published models;
data sets from MIEX® jar tests and pilot trials;
MIEX® and MIEX® plus coagulation treatment;
three SPW sites; and,
formation potentials under site specific Simulated Distribution System (SDS)
conditions. Models included:
US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Water Treatment Plant WTP Model
(CDWO (2001); verified Solarik et al (2000));
USEPA-MPI (original)
(Harrington et al (1992));
(DWR (original and recalibrated)
(Hutton and Chung (1992,1993)); and,
Palmdale Water District (PWD)
(developed by Carollo Engineers for AWWARF Study). Sites included:
Metropolitan Water District (MWD);
Covina Irrigating Company (CIC); and,
Palmdale Water District (PWD). Includes 3 references, figures.
