This paper provides an update on the US Environmental Protection Agency's (USEPA) efforts to evaluate and implement the
recommendations for microbial contaminants for the next and future CCLs. They include:
defining a set of microorganisms as a universe of potential CCL organisms;
identifying methods to screen this universe to a set of waterborne pathogens transmitted
in drinking water for further scrutiny (pre-CCL);
developing a transparent process to identify which pre-CCL pathogens should be considered for the next or future CCLs; and,
evaluation of new analytical methods, and technological advances that maybe considered for future CCLs to identify emerging pathogens. Includes abstract only.
