This powerpoint presentation begins by presenting a modeling approach for the Initial Distribution System Evaluation (IDSE). Topics covered include: selecting IDSE sites; approach for presenting results; selected sample sites; preliminary sampling; and, water age predictions vs. disinfection byproduct measurements. The summary of the study included these points: predicted water age is a fairly good surrogate for TTHM in systems using free chlorine; HAA5 not as well correlated with predicted water age; in monochloramine system, IDSE sampling verified that DBPs do not increase significantly with water age; and, the approach was successful because model-selected Stage 2 sites had higher DBP concentrations than Stage 1 sites.
