This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Loudoun County (Virginia) Sanitation Authority's (LCSA's) water system, and the history of its water quality (WQ). Specks occurrence and historical specks analysis are presented, along with a water quality evaluation that revealed that the historically elevated Mn and Fe analytical results from
LCSA did not correlate with WTP results. Customer complaints prompted a field investigation of the specks occurrence, that resulted in the following conclusions: degraded expansion tank material (butyl
rubber) appear same as black specks in tub;
degraded PRV diaphragm material
(reinforced EPDM) appear same as black
speck on whole house cartridge filter; WQ and hydraulic conditions may have
contributed to rapid degradation of these
elastomer materials with possible blending
WQ conditions; and, the
importance of one "GO TO PERSON"
with WQ expertise. Final lab analysis of Mr. X's
specks and materials is presented, along with material testing laboratory
results, and recommended steps to resolve
this type of WQ problem
quickly. Includes tables, figures.
