This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of Adenoviruses and ultraviolet (UV) disinfection. Previous work showing UV "resistance" was based on: LP UV-monochromatic at 253.7 nm; and, cell culture infectivity. This work was based on: LP and MP (polychromatic) UV; newer UV technologies, extragenomic damage; QPCR; and, molecular method, direct assessment of damage. Structure of Adenoviruses, infectious cycle of Adenovirus, and QPCR Assay for DNA Damage are presented. Presentation conclusions indicate the following: direct, molecular-based assay does help clarify effects of UV on adenovirus; DNA damage was the same in both LP and MP; LP UV damage likely gets repaired, allowing successful infection; and, MP UV causes other damage or interferes with repair. Includes figures.
