This powerpoint presentation focuses on the key steps that are required for a successful LIMS replacement project, including: needs assessment; Request for Proposal creation; product demos; selection; purchase and deployment; and, data migration from the historical LIMS. The useful life of a LIMS will depend on how well the LIMS matches the requirements of the laboratory, some LIMS survive less than a year while LIMS that are a "good fit" can manage the laboratory samples for 10 or more years. There are also cases in which the LIMS team will try to adapt the laboratory operations to the LIMS or customize the LIMS to meet the data management challenges even though the customized system may fall short of the complete data management requirements.
