This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of deaths from unsafe water, sanitation and hygiene around the world. A project located in Monwabisi Park (an informal squatter's camp), Cape Town, South Africa, to improve water and sanitation service is presented. Project objectives included the following: analyze "current conditions";
assess options;
plan communal Water Center;
build and operate; and,
assess, revise, and replicate. Methodology included: action-research by students, faculty, community;
literature review and work with city agencies;
community surveys, interviews;
design and review process;
build with community members;
operate and assess including
many stakeholders and criteria (social, technical, environmental). Includes tables.
