This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of alert levels triggering intensified monitoring including cyanobacteria (CB) taxonomic counts and toxin measurement, and PC fluoroprobe in vivo CB presence evaluation of
practical intensive monitoring with appropriate
thresholds. Validation of PC probe results is recommended before
concluding its application by establishing the correction factors for in
vivo cyanobacteria (CB) measurements
including Chlorophyll (Chl), turbidity,
biovolume, etc. Topics presented include the following: sources of bias involved in in vivo CB
assessment using YSI PC fluoroprobe and solutions; correction possibilities for CB in vivo
measurements using PC probe; recall of validation of online fluoroprobe, Australian Water Quality Center (AWQC) (Australia, Summer 2008); validation of in vivo probe M. aeruginosa estimation of calibration bias; validation of in vivo probe A. circinalis estimation of calibration bias; validation of in vivo probe CB biomass estimated from microscopic enumeration vs. probe measurements; Chla in vivo measurement in cyanobacteria and green algae; and, validation of in vivo probe. Includes figures.
